What is the Minnesota Cannabis College
Minnesota Cannabis College is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2020 to educate and support Minnesotans seeking careers, entrepreneurial opportunities, and cultivation knowledge int he state's legal cannabis industry. We place special emphasis on serving individuals facing barriers to traditional education and employment paths, and on communities historically affected by cannabis prohibition.
How do I enroll at the Minnesota Cannabis College?
Our organization is created to provide the most access to education to the highest number of Minnesotans. As such, we have no formal enrollment process and instead allow any individual to enroll in classes without a formal enrollment process.

What is the Minnesota Cannabis College
Minnesota Cannabis College is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2020 to educate and support Minnesotans seeking careers, entrepreneurial opportunities, and cultivation knowledge int he state's legal cannabis industry. Is Minnesota Cannabis College an accredited college of university?
No. We are a nonprofit education and workforce training organization, not an accredited degree-granting institution. Our courses are designed by subject matter experts with real experience growing, processing , and selling cannabis in Minnesota, and our workforce programs are supported by Minnesota state grant partners.
Who teaches your courses?
Our instructors are practitioners: growers, retailers, processors, and industry professionals working in Minnesota's cannabis market today, alongside educators with backgrounds in state regulation and organizational leadership.
Is MNCC affiliated with the State of MN?
We are an independent nonprofit, but we partner with State agencies. Our workforce programs are supported by grants from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) and Office of Cannabis Management (OCM).
What is Retail Track workforce training?
Our retail workforce training track, funded in part through a CanTrain state grant partnership with Minnesota DEED. The program prepares participants for careers in cannabis retail, covering product knowledge, compliance, customer service, and the skills dispensary employers are looking for.
What is Cultivation Track workforce training?
Our cultivation training, supported in part by the Office of Cannabis Management CanGrow grant, provides education, mentorship, and Compliance training for Minnesotans who want to grow cannabis professionally, whether at an existing cultivation facility or through their own licensed business.
How much do your programs cost?
Our grant-funded workforce programs are free to eligible participants. Some of our community classes and online courses have a registration fee. Please check the individual course page for details.
Do you offer online classes?
Yes. We offer online learning options including live virtual courses, such as our five-week Retail Track workforce training and more.
Who can enroll?
Our courses are open to adults 21 and over. Grant-funded workforce programs may have additional eligibility criteria tied to the funding source; details are listed on each program page or available by contacting us.
Do I need any prior experience?
No. Our programs are designed for beginners as well as those with some experience. Whether you've never touched a plant or you're looking to formalize skills you already have, there's a track for you.
Will I receive a certificate?
Upon successful completion of our workforce training programs, along with required materials being submitted to MNCC, you'll receive a Certificate of Completion.
Can MNCC help me find a job?
Yes. We support job placement for workforce program participants, helping match graduates with positions that fit their skills and interests in Minnesota's growing cannabis industry.
What kinds of jobs exist in Minnesota's cannabis industry?
The industry needs cultivators, budtenders and retail staff, processors and extractors, compliance specialists, delivery and logistics workers, and business operators. Our programs are build around the roles Minnesota's legal market actually runs on.

The Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) is currently being created by the State of Minnesota. Until the OCM is created and an application process is established, nobody can apply for a cannabis busness license.

I want to start my own cannabis business. Can you help?
Yes. Supporting entrepreneurs, especially those from communities affected by prohibition, is central to our mission. Our programs cover licensing, compliance, and business fundamentals, and we can connect you with resources including social equity programs administered by the Office of Cannabis Management.
Is cannabis legal in Minnesota?
Yes. Adult-use and medical cannabis is legal in Minnesota for adults 21 years of age and older, with limits on possession and home cultivation set by state statute. Our courses cover the current legal framework in detail. For official regulations, please visit the OCM website at MN.gov/OCM.
Can I legally grow cannabis at home in Minnesota?
Yes, adults 21 and over may grow a limited number of plants at home under MN law. Our Grow at Home course covers both the horticulture and the legal requirements so you can grow confidently and compliantly.
Does taking a class mean I'm licensed to sell of grow commercially?
No. Commercial cannabis activity in MN requires a license from the Office of Cannabis Management (OCM). Our training prepares you to work in and operate licensed businesses, but licensing is handled by the state.
How is Minnesota Cannabis College funded?
We're funded through a combination of state workforce grants, foundation support, individual donations, and sponsorships. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 86-2319307), donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
